Psydev’s Work Blog

Perspectives on Technology and Business

That was the year that was!

Thanks for making your way over to our “work blog”.

The plan for this blog going forward is that I aim to write every week, using three or four key themes, and focused on the issues that we come across. These issues (or themes as I am calling them), will include the pretty obvious technology ones, but I also want to look at some of the more business oriented issues that we encounter. There is a further plan to supplement the blog with some podcasts on the issues raised – I’ll need some collaborators for this – so if you’d like to be involved, please get in touch.

Next year we will also be releasing some software that has been written as value add to the HarvestRoad Hive repository.

This has been a very busy year for us. We’ve expanded in size, we’ve moved offices and we’ve taken on larger pieces of work. We’ve said goodbye to Jo Knights, who was with us for a year as an administrator; we’ve said hello to Adam Fredericks as a software developer and Helen Gibbons as an administrator.
We’ve also said hello to new associates, such as Pauli Visuri at Addwit doing a sterling job with end user training. Anne Sparrowhawk, of SparrowHawk and Heald, is joining us in a consortium lead by Dunelm; along with our other associates at Icodeon and eLoki, we’ll be looking at the use of learning standards by the content industry.

Project work has included our usual staples in e-learning and digital repositories. Psydev have been involved with (amongst other things) the e-Framework for education and research, with HarvestRoad in support of their UK clients, and with Becta, as part of the Standards Review Panel.

Most recently we’ve gotten involved with the wocrig project, and attended an event called an unconference. Whenever I have mentioned unconferences to people, I’ve explained it as “a free form event designed to simulate a coffee break at a conference; only capturing the discussions…”. Tiring yes, but I think a very valid format, and something I would like to try again.

All that remains now is for me to wish all of our customers, associates and other friends a very merry christmas, and a happy new year!
